Film Review IV: Upgraded

This film is painfully representative of the romantic comedy genre of films. Though I am a sucker for a great rom-com, sometimes the cheesiness and the predictability becomes too much to bear. I thought that they truly missed the mark when it came to the score of this film. It is about a girl posing as an art curator and you would except a particularly creative mise-en-scene, but there was nothing about this film that gave exceptionally artistic.  The score was expected and I thought the entire plot had been overplayed. I know that I have just completely bashed this film, but it would be negligent of me to not mention that I would probably re-watch this film. There were sweet and cathartic moments that I think require a second watch to truly appreciate them.

Ironically, my favorite scene in the film was when her boyfriend checked the main character for being manipulative and selfish. I felt like this scene had the most realistic dialogue as well as the best acting. In my opinion, I think that making a visually appealing movie is much easier than creating a creative and innovative film. Having good writers on set who are able to give critiques on how to create a more developed inciting incident would have been extremely beneficial to the overall success of this film. This was by far my least favorite film that I had to review this semester, but I do not think it was a complete bust, it just lacked creative flare that I love to see in films.

Here, you can watch the Tik-Tok that I did on how much I loathed the lack of creativeness in this movie!
